Many of you will be aware of the financial pressures schools are currently facing and how school funding has reduced significantly over the last few years. This has led to schools making difficult decisions in order to ensure they can balance their budgets.
As many parents will already know, we have run extended day sessions for pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 pupils on a Monday after school for many years. The school pays for our teachers and teaching assistants to provide the extra hour of education free of charge to parents and we have seen the important impact these engaging sessions have had on the progress of our children in reading.
Sadly, we have had to make the difficult decision to stop extended day in Year 5 as we are unable to continue to pay staff to run these sessions.
We have, however, managed to protect some funding in order to continue to run extended day in Year 6. We feel these sessions are vital in helping prepare our pupils for the challenges of the Year 6 curriculum, help prepare them for their statutory assessments and support them to manage the curriculum they will face in secondary school.
Details about Year 6 extended day will come out to parents at the start of the Autumn Term.
Children will be encouraged to bring an extra healthy snack and drink to have at the start of these sessions.
Many thanks for your continued support.
