Chair of Governors Welcome
WELCOME TO GUILDFORD GROVE
It is my pleasure as Chair of Governors to welcome you to Guildford Grove. We offer education and care for your children from the ages of 3 to 11. Our Specialist Centre, The Lighthouse, is the base for our 14 profoundly deaf pupils, who are supported in the classroom by teachers of the deaf and sign support assistants.
The whole school is committed to providing a school day which excites, challenges and motivates each child. Strong emphasis is placed on high standards of both work and behaviour. Rich opportunities for learning enable children to acquire essential language, mathematical, scientific and technological skills within a creative curriculum. We build confidence, develop independence and the ability to express ideas and feelings.
We also attach great importance to the development of the children’s social skills; we enable them to build relationships with other children and adults and to be sensitive to the needs and feelings of others. Outside of the classroom we offer a wide range of activities, including very successful productions of West Side Story, Grease Mamma Mia and other musicals.
Our outdoor activities are very good with an all-weather play area for a variety of sports. The gardening club is very active and is supported by RHS Wisley.
Our strong focus on the needs of each individual child ensures that the best possible progress is made at all times. The calm and purposeful atmosphere and positive approach support the development of high self esteem and promote success in all areas of learning.
We know that your involvement in your child’s education is crucial and we provide frequent opportunities to keep you informed about all aspects of your child’s life at school. We are keen that parents are involved at all levels and welcome their help in the classrooms, around the school and in the PTA.
I hope you enjoy our website and urge you to visit us; you will be warmly welcomed and will be able to see our pupils in the business of learning. Please click the link to read our latest Ofsted report which provides external acknowledgement of our success.
